Shorting is making a bet that a stock will go down in price.

To begin shorting at Wall Street Survivor, first go to Make a Trade.

Once on the Make a Trade page, choose which portfolio you will be making the trade in: the contest portfolio or the permanent portfolio.

Choose the stock symbol you are going to trade. Choose Short as the action. Now, choose the quantity and click Preview order.

Once the order is valid, you'll see a green checkmark. You can also see the Stock Ticker, the action to Short, and the quantity at a negative amount, since you are shorting. The Order type is Market, since that's the current market price. Click Place order to make the trade.

The confirmation page tells you that the order went through, the duration of the order and the estimated total of the short trade.

Shorting can be profitable in a down or bear market. To close or cover your short in your portfolio, click on the cover button.

On the Make a Trade page, choose the stock you would like to cover, and choose cover for the action. Type in the quantity and click Preview order.

Once the order is valid, you'll see the green checkmark. You'll also see the stock ticker, the action to cover and the estimated total. Click Place order.

The confirmation page confirms that the trade went through at the current market price. This will stop the short.
